Introducing Great Lakes EV, Ltd!
Who and what are we?
GLEV was founded by Suzi Milo and Pete Milo to address the tremendous gap in the parts supply chain for the EV service industry.
When Suzi left Tesla earlier this year, we thought about opening our own Tesla repair shop. After all, it had been our dream for years to go into business for ourselves after Tesla retirement, it just happened sooner than the original plan. However, as we started doing research, we realized there was a huge problem: how in the world do you get parts? Indy shops are already complaining about prohibitively long lead times from Tesla, the quality and availability of used parts is either unreliable or non-existent, and almost everything ships from the west coast. No thank you.
So instead of giving up, we thought one layer deeper. What if we started out by buying salvage cars and producing our own parts? It would require less shop space and overhead than a full service operation, and that way we could bootstrap our way into being fully functional without relying on other suppliers as much...
Well, hold on. What if THAT'S the thing? We just...become the supplier?
So this is our plan. We buy inoperable EVs (primarily but not exclusively Tesla), disassemble them, clean and grade every part, refurbish the good stuff (LDUs of course), photograph them individually, and offer an online catalog to repair shops, organized by system like an OEM.
You'll also be able to buy some stuff on eBay.
At every step of the way we want to inject professionalism into the process: disassembly will be to rigorous quality standards developed through initial trials; we'll have a dedicated "parts photo booth" for consistent and high quality photography; our parts grading, refurbishment standards, and warranty offerings will always be transparent.
We are running this business beholden to no financial 3rd parties, no unnecessary bells and whistles. We do things our way, the right way.
And it's going to be impossible to keep Pete from being a mad scientist at every opportunity, so we'll also be investing in certain compelling retrofits and aftermarket products. We can't wait to share what we have in mind!!
Over the next few weeks we'll be posting here and across our other social media platforms with our first teardowns, how-to videos, and other status updates.
We're extremely excited to see how we can help independent EV shops increase their business, leading to more options and higher customer confidence in their EV purchase.
